RAMMER PERFORMANCE LINE R25P MOVES MOUNTAINS

Hydraulic hammers from world-leading attachments brand Rammer are helping a major Indian contractor to build vital roads in the Himalayas.

One of the fastest-growing road construction companies in North India is using Rammer Performance Line hammers to forge new roads in the Himalayan mountain range of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Punjab-based M/s Garg & Garg Associates operates a fleet of 50 hydraulic excavators ranging in size from 13 to 30 tonnes, including 30 units supplied by local Rammer dealer Larsen & Toubro (L&T).  The company also owns and operates a pair of Sandvik Jumbo Drills and approximately 20 rock breakers.

Avinash Gupta, proprietor of Garg and Garg Associates, has been buying machines from L&T for a decade now.   But, until relatively recently, he had purchased hydraulic hammers from a competitive brand.   However, when he learned about the Sandvik breakers from L&T, he decided to make a partial switch, splitting his requirement for four breakers between the competitive brand and the Bretec L20 breakers from Sandvik.

Those Bretec breakers were used in both primary and secondary breaking applications, clocking up more than 2,000 hours and achieving high productivity and optimum availability, a vital consideration in this remote and mountainous region.   Gupta reports that he could clearly see the superior quality and output of the Sandvik-manufactured breaker compared to the competitor.   The patented design and the technology used on Sandvik breakers delivered minimum downtime during operation together with a wear part life of 1.5 times higher than the competitor breakers. This superior performance of Sandvik breakers and the timely service support of Larsen & Toubro gave L&T an edge in keeping the customer satisfied.

So when Sandvik subsequently launched the Rammer Performance Line hammers in India in April 2018, Larsen & Toubro were quick to brief Garg and Garg Associates about the benefits of the new hammer models.

In January 2019, M/s Garg & Garg Associates was awarded a series of road construction projects in the high altitudes of the Himalayas from Director General of Border Roads (DGBR) to help improve links between India and neighbouring Nepal.   These projects required a further investment in hydraulic hammers and Rammer was the company’s first choice.   Garg and Garg Associates placed an order for 13 units of 1,650 kg Rammer R25P breakers, the largest single order for rock breakers in the construction equipment division of L&T.

These breakers are working in a primary breaking application in an area of 136 kilometres at the Indian Border and at an altitude of more than 2,000 metres above sea level.   All the Rammer R25P units are mounted on Komatsu PC210 hydraulic excavators and are working between 10 and 12 hours per day.    Together with his site team, Avinash Gupta is extremely satisfied with his new fleet of Rammer hydraulic hammers.   So much so, in fact, he is personally recommending them to other customers and is now considered a Sandvik breaker brand ambassador.
